What skincare treatment do I need?

Chemical Peel:

Sun exposure, acne or just getting older can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. If you want your skin to look smoother and younger, consider a chemical peel, which uses a chemical solution to smooth the texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers.

A chemical peel is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. Although chemical peels are used mostly on the face, they can also be used to improve the skin on your neck and hands.

You can improve:

  • Acne or acne scars
  • Age and sun spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Irregular skin pigmentation
  • Rough skin and scaly patches
  • Scars
  • Sun-damaged skin

Dermaplaning:

Dermaplaning is a simple and painless procedure for exfoliating the skin while removing the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the face. Dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment with no adverse effects and no downtime. The procedure uses a scalpel and a delicate touch to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells using light feathering strokes. Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance. This treatment is great for patients who are pregnant or nursing and want deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the blood stream.

Dermaplane is also a first choice for patients who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives the patient healthier looking skin. Although merely an old wives’ tale, many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

Microdermabrasion:

Microdermabrasion is a manual-type of professional exfoliation of the skin like dermaplaning, although very different in the way the treatment is performed. While dermaplaning uses a blade to exfoliate the skin, microdermabrasion uses a vacuum along with sand-like crystals or an abrasive wand to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. Unlike dermaplaning, microdermabrasion does not remove the peach fuzz on the face. Microdermabrasion is painless with no downtime, and is safe for both pregnant or nursing mothers.

In addition to exfoliating and smoothing the skin, both dermaplaning and microdermabrasion allow our medical grade skin care products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers of your skin by removing the occlusive layer of dead skin cells. Either dermaplaning or microdermabrasion may be recommended to prepare the skin for chemical peels or other treatments requiring deep penetration into the skin giving you quicker results towards your skin-care goals.

Anti-Aging Treatments:

Your skin is the largest organ of the body providing important protection from the environment, so it’s important we take care of it. Healthy young skin is thick, and exfoliates naturally. As we age the skin’s ability to exfoliate naturally declines while skin texture and elasticity changes with the onset of fine lines and then deeper wrinkles. Slower cellular turnover of older skin creates a layer of occlusive dead skin, which can prevent ingredient penetration that could improve skin suppleness and delay the onset of wrinkles, resulting in dull skin with poor texture and an aged appearance. The best strategy to help speed up cell turnover and slow the aging process is using a tailored resurfacing regimen to exfoliate the skin surface, encouraging the growth of new cells, enhancing specialized skin treatment products to penetrate effectively creating a natural, healthy glow, and an overall younger appearance.

Resurfacing Treatments:

Regardless of age and often due to sun exposure, our skin can have flaws and irregularities affecting our appearance including: acne, rosacea, roughness, uneven tone and texture, freckles, age-spots, melasma, and dull skin. All hyperpigmentation conditions need careful assessment to ensure appropriate treatment. The source may be hormonal rather than sun damage or age spots, which can be stubborn and resistant to some treatments. After a comprehensive skin consultation, many pigmentation and skin flaws can be successfully treated using a combination of treatments using exfoliation procedures and skin care products. We fully assess the situation and recommend the most suitable treatment options. Resurfacing treatments are designed to provide a clearer, more uniform complexion with the appearance of healthier more radiant skin.

Resurfacing treatments may include chemical peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, or a combination thereof.

Special Challenges:

Body Acne: Common with teenagers and sometimes with adults. The body skin is often an ideal environment for acne bacteria to grow. Increasing exfoliation, reducing inflammation and keeping the area well-cleansed and hydrated are key to clearing acne breakouts on the body. Localized chemical peels and anti-inflammatory skin care products are part of a regimen to reduce the acne outbreaks, reduce inflammation and decrease the growth of acne inducing bacteria.

Hyperpigmentation: Commonly affecting the hands, arms, chest and face. Due to our daily high altitude UV exposure these areas are often neglected when it comes to sunscreen use. Melasma is typically a facial challenge, but can also appear on the forearms. Also, hyperpigmentation may develop anywhere surface trauma has taken place, not just on the face. Chemical peels can help reduce these effects. The combination of professional skin-care treatments combined with medical-grade skin care products are the best way to achieve more even pigmentation, tone and texture.
