How IPL can Support Youthful Skin
- Posted on: Nov 15 2017
Facial aging has been a concern expressed by men and women pretty much since the dawn of time. Humans have discussed the proverbial Fountain of Youth for hundreds of years, and have gone to great lengths to make sure that fountain remained well-stocked with innovative techniques to reduce the signs of age. Today, the various changes that cause the face and body to appear older are relatively easy to address. In fact, more people realize the value in proactive measures, such as laser and light treatments.
One way we help clients of our Aurora, CO office look and feel their best is with IPL facials. IPL, or intense pulsed light, has been used for several years to support aging skin uniquely. The primary objective of individuals interested in the IPL photo facial is a reduction in or prevention of hyperpigmentation. This may be due to rosacea or acne, or it may stem from UV damage after days – or years – of sun-worship. The beauty of IPL is that it affects the skin in such a way that multiple pigmentation concerns can be addressed at once.
The way that IPL works are that it targets melanin, the compound in the skin that gives us color. When the skin is exposed to the sun (or tanning lamps), the production of melanin increases. Ultimately, melanin can clump together in the form of freckles or sun spots. According to research, a short course of three to five IPL treatments can substantially reduce the appearance of these spots. Initially, targeted benign lesions may darken as melanin is broken up. This darkness gradually dissipates as the body either absorbs or sloughs off the pigmented cells.
Because we are all exposed to the sun now and then, we all sustain a bit of UV damage. It is for this reason that experts recommend gentle light and laser treatments like IPL facials so highly. Going beyond the skin-brightening effects, studies also indicate that collagen production increases as a result of the slight heating of the superficial tissue beneath the epidermis. Talk about powerful anti-aging before aging becomes obvious!
