Spots, Be Gone!
- Posted on: Mar 15 2018
As we age, it is only natural that we may begin to notice the appearance of brown spots on our hands, arms, face, and chest. Through the ages, this type of hyperpigmentation has been referred to as liver spots, age spots, and more. In truth, this boils down to good old sunshine.
Maybe you haven’t spent an extraordinary amount of time in the sun. Maybe no one could accuse you of being a sun-worshipper, or find pictures of you slathered in Baby Oil on a sunny beach somewhere. The thing is, this isn’t the only way that our skin can get damaged by the sun.
Any exposure to UV light, whether natural sunlight or a tanning bed, affects the cells that lie beneath the epidermis. Light passes through the surface of the skin and gets absorbed by tissue and multiple types of cells. When UV light is absorbed by melanocyte cells, they respond in a protective manner. These cells produce melanin to darken the skin as a way to prevent damage. But that very process signifies damage. Over time, excess melanin clumps together and eventually appear on the surface as spots.
Fascinating, we know, but what you really want is a solution to the aged-appearance of your skin. A few options for patients of our Aurora, CO med spa include:
IPL Photo Rejuvenation
IPL treatment is also referred to as a Photo-Facial. Photo, in this sense, means light; Intense Pulsed Light, to be specific. The entire purpose of an IPL treatment is to target clumps of melanin beneath the surface and break them apart with safe and effective wavelengths of light. This treatment involves the wavelengths that have been proven to do this. Multiple treatments may be needed as spots gradually fade away.
Microneedling
Microneedling is one of the trendiest cosmetic treatments performed today. Men and women of all ages appreciate the convenience and efficacy of this collagen-induction treatment that uses nothing more than their own biological processes. Microneedling works by exciting collagen-producing cells, leading to an influx of the healing protein. As a result, skin brightens, scars fade, and even wrinkles smooth out.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are controlled exfoliation that can gently remove an ultra-thin layer of cells or a more substantial amount. We achieve the desired results by customizing peels to the individual. Whether you have undergone other treatment for moderate to severe dark spots, or you are just beginning to notice discoloration, a peel is a great way to keep that radiant glow of youth.
