Is DiamondGlow Better Than Microneedling?

Whether DiamondGlow is better than microneedling depends on your specific skin concerns, goals, and preferences. Let’s compare the two treatments to help you make an informed decision.

Microdermabrasion vs Microneedling

If you’re considering microdermabrasion or microneedling, the decision lies in your specific skin concerns, desired results, and the depth of treatment. Microneedling is a more in-depth solution that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin that stimulate collagen and elastin production. DiamondGlow is a type of microdermabrasion–an exfoliating treatment that gently buffs away the outer layer of dead skin cells using a diamond-tipped wand.

DiamondGlow Combines Exfoliation, Extraction, and Infusion to Rejuvenate the Skin

As a non-invasive treatment, DiamondGlow deeply exfoliates the skin while simultaneously delivering customized serums based on your goals. These serums hydrate and nourish the skin. DiamondGlow can be tailored to target skin concerns such as:

  • Dryness
  • Acne
  • Signs of aging
  • Dull complexion

There is little to no downtime, making it an easy treatment to squeeze into a busy schedule.

How Long Do DiamondGlow Results Last?

Like any cosmetic treatment, the longevity of results can vary based on skin type, targeted concerns, and aftercare steps taken. That said, most patients can expect to see smoother, brighter skin immediately after treatment. As the skin continues to hydrate and heal, this initial glow lasts for a few days. The benefits from DiamondGlow generally continue anywhere from four to six weeks.

To maintain DiamondGlow results for the long term, we generally recommend scheduling a series of 6+ initial treatments with three to four weeks in between. Maintenance sessions could then be every four to six weeks. If you’re looking to revitalize before a special event, one treatment may be enough. For the best personalized advice and maintenance recommendations, it’s always a good idea to consult with a skincare professional who can tailor a plan to your individual needs.

DiamondGlow Downtime and Recovery

DiamondGlow typically involves minimal to no downtime. Most people can resume their regular activities, including work or social events, immediately after the procedure. You may notice some mild redness similar to a slight sunburn that subsides within a few hours. Your skin may feel slightly sensitive or tight, particularly if you have sensitive skin. However, just like the redness, this sensation should resolve quickly.

We do recommend avoiding intense heat or sweat (heavy workouts, saunas, or hot showers) for the first 24 hours, as this can irritate the skin. Stick to gentle cleansers and hydrating moisturizers for a day or two, to help prevent irritation. Lastly, be sure to protect your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

Who Should Try DiamondGlow Microdermabrasion?

Anyone looking to enhance their skin, hydrate, and quickly refresh without significant downtime could consider DiamondGlow. It’s an excellent solution for quickly brightening the complexion.

Microneedling Stimulates the Body’s Natural Healing Process

As a minimally invasive treatment, microneedling creates tiny punctures in the skin that promote healing. This technology promotes collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture and firmness. Microneedling is highly effective for reducing several concerns over time, including:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage

As a versatile solution, Microneedling is very customizable, which means your provider can tailor treatment to your specific needs. Plus, there are options with microneedling, such as a more traditional solution or RF microneedling.

Microneedling Downtime and Recovery

While no downtime is necessary, some aftereffects may impact your return to your normal routine. For the first day or two, there may be some redness, bruising, sensitivity, and pinpoint bleeding. Redness and sensitivity should subside after three to five days, but the skin may flake or peel with some mild itching. By day six, the skin may still be peeling, dry, or rough as it continues to heal. After anywhere from 11 to 14 days, the skin should be pretty well healed.

Proper microneedling aftercare is essential for maximizing the results and ensuring a smooth recovery, including:

  • Avoid touching your face immediately after treatment to help prevent introducing bacteria
  • Keep the skin clean–no washing for around six hours afterward, then only with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water
  • Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for a week or two and always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30+
  • Do not use scrubs, exfoliating acids, or retinoids for at least a week
  • Minimize heat exposure, makeup usage, or strenuous activity for the first 24-48 hours

By following these aftercare steps, you can help ensure that your microneedling treatment delivers the best possible results with minimal complications.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Microneedling results can last for several months, but like DiamondGlow, this varies depending on your skin type, the severity of your concerns, and how many sessions you undergo. Again, similar to DiamondGlow, the initial post-treatment glow is often immediately noticeable, along with an improvement in skin texture. But, the real skin tightening benefits of microneedling that come from a collagen production boost typically show within four to six weeks.

As collagen continues to develop, skin firmness, elasticity, and texture enhancements from a single session can last three to five months. Three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart are typically recommended to improve more significant skin concerns, such as acne scars or wrinkles. With a series of microneedling sessions, the results last significantly longer–six months up to a year.

Who Should Try Microneedling?

If you have more mild to moderate skin concerns and want a more long-term solution for overall skin health, microneedling would be a more beneficial solution than DiamondGlow.

The Difference Between Traditional and RF Microneedling

Microneedling primarily addresses surface issues, only penetrating the skin to a certain depth. It is a gentler solution. RF microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy, which is delivered through the needles into the deeper layers of the skin. The RF energy heats the tissue, promoting more intense collagen production and skin tightening. RF microneedling is more expensive due to the advanced technology and deeper results, which may or may not impact your decision-making.

RF Microneedling Delivers More Dramatic Results Than Microneedling

Traditional microneedling results are typically less transformational than those of RF microneedling. This is because the needles create micro-injuries while the radiofrequency energy heats the dermis. This heat further stimulates collagen and elastin production, dramatically improving skin texture, tightness, and elasticity.

RF microneedling delivers deep skin rejuvenation, providing more substantial collagen stimulation and tightening sagging skin. It can reduce deeper scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks more effectively for longer-lasting improvements. Keep in mind that RF microneedling may have more intense redness and swelling after treatment.

Who Should Try RF Microneedling?

As a more intense solution, RF microneedling may not be ideal for those with very sensitive skin or who are looking for a lighter treatment. However, if you are looking for deeper rejuvenation and tightening or have more advanced skin concerns, it may be your best option. RF microneedling is a more powerful treatment than traditional microneedling.

Combining DiamondGlow with Microneedling

DiamondGlow can be combined with microneedling if you time the treatments properly. A skincare professional will determine the best approach for your skin, but typically, DiamondGlow is done before microneedling. This allows for a thorough exfoliation to create a smooth surface for microneedling.

Both treatments can cause some redness and irritation, so doing them too closely together could over-sensitize the skin unless your skin is resilient. To avoid too much irritation, leaving a waiting period of one or two weeks between treatments is typically recommended. This lets the skin heal and adjust. A skincare expert can help you tailor the timing and intensity of treatments for your specific skin type.

Who Can Benefit From Both DiamondGlow and Microneedling?

If you’re looking for comprehensive skin rejuvenation, for example, and you have concerns that each of these treatments addresses separately, you may want to consider combining them. This combination can target both surface-level and deeper skin concerns, providing a well-rounded approach to improving skin texture, tone, and overall health.
